Boeing expands its CBTA curriculum to enhance flight safety.
In addition to the initial flying license training, pilots must also acquire adequate training on aircraft type-specific systems, flight operations, and human behavior. The Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) provided by Boeing standardizes pilot training based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines.
The CBTA program aims to enhance air travel safety while keeping flight crews up-to-date with information on safe procedures. Inside the high-fidelity full-flight simulators, student pilot trainees interact with instructors, examiners, and sometimes representatives from regulatory authorities. Trainees undergo all aspects of flight, including familiarity with the aircraft type, normal and emergency flight procedures, and human behavior.
Boeing and CAE aim to expand access to high-quality, innovative flight training to commercial aviation customers worldwide. According to Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Global Services,
This partnership expands our competency-based flight-training capacity to better meet the needs of our customers worldwide. By sharing data, leveraging digital capabilities, and providing greater accessibility and affordability, Boeing and CAE are enhancing global aviation safety.
Boeing’s existing CBTA program will leverage digitally advanced tools offered by CAE to enhance fleet operations while providing customized training to individuals. The training will be based on individual competencies and allow trainees to respond efficiently to in-flight challenges.
By focusing on an immersive learning platform, trainees are able to better engage with the content and expand their knowledge of the subject matter. Boeing is implementing the CBTA curriculum through its global training campuses in Seattle, Miami, London (Gatwick), Shanghai, and Singapore, as well as at customer locations worldwide.
CAE’s expertise in digital solutions and its strong global network will enable Boeing to expand its CBTA program with more focus on aviation safety. At the same time, CAE can benefit from a variety of Boeing aircraft simulators and training platforms to enhance its offerings for Boeing and its customers. According to Marc Parent, the President and CEO of CAE,
As a Boeing-authorized training provider, CAE will leverage its expertise and global network to expand access to high-quality training on Boeing commercial aircraft and give pilots the skills and knowledge they need for peak performance in the flight deck. Boeing and CAE are working together to enhance aviation safety, and this agreement ensures more pilots worldwide are ready for the moments that matter.
