United Airlines To Increase Latin America And Caribbean Flights In November

admin May 24, 2024 Uncategorized 0 Comment

Most changes are concentrated at United’s Houston hub.

United Airlines is increasing its presence in a few Latin American and Caribbean destinations this November, with nearly 120,000 seats added for the month.

Additional flights in Latin America and the Caribbean, concentrated from Houston

The beginning of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) summer period was last month, and summer airline schedules are nearly set. But airlines are already looking beyond summer and adjusting networks. According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, United Airlines added more than 600 roundtrip international flights to its schedule in November, totaling nearly 120,000 seats.

Data shows that United’s November schedule has an additional 510,955 over November 2023. The greater number includes new service from Houston to Tulum, a massive increase in flights to Vancouver, returned Chinese routes, and, hopefully, a return to Tel Aviv. Some international routes that were flown in November 2023 will not be flown this year, including Tokyo Narita – Saipan, Denver – Roatan, and Chicago – Cozumel.

Now, let’s talk about what changed most recently. Every week, Cirium has a ‘recent changes’ report, which shows what an airline has changed from one week to the next. This week’s report shows that nearly 120,000 seats were added to the November schedule between last week and this week. In terms of seats, the route from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen had the most significant change. Initially, United planned to fly the route twice daily but added one daily frequency. Since the route is operated by the Boeing 737-900ER, an additional 5,425 seats (one-way) will be available in November.

One daily frequency was also added from Houston to Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría (SJO), and Aeropuerto Internacional General Francisco Mujica (Morelia). Flights to Guadalajara are operated by the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737-700, offering an additional 3,906 (one-way) seats in November. San Jose, Costa Rica, will have three daily flights from United, two in the morning and the third in the late afternoon, all operated by the Boeing 737-800. The short 783-mile flight to Morelia, Mexico, will be operated by CommuteAir for United on the Embraer ERJ-145, with 50 seats. Capacity was doubled in November, adding 1,500 seats.

Increases at other hubs

Flights from Dulles International Airport serving Washington D.C. to Aeropuerto Internacional Punta Cana will double. As of last week, United only planned one flight from Washington to Punta Cana. With the changes, the airline will have an additional 10,500 roundtrip seats. Instead of operating once daily from Newark Liberty International Airport to Panama City, United will have 12 weekly flights, adding another 7,700 roundtrip seats on the 737-900ER.

A few more routes will increase in November, including Houston – Grand Cayman, Los Angeles – Guatemala City, San Francisco – Puerto Vallarta, Los Angeles – San Salvador, Denver – Puerto Vallarta, Denver – San Jose del Cabo, Houston – Belize City, and a few more.
